The North Kingstown Community Chorus, Inc. is a non-profit show chorus made up of about 100 dedicated and enthusiastic singers. The North Kingstown Community Youth Chorus consists of about 30 elementary and middle school children. We perform beautiful ballads, popular tunes, musical comedy, seasonal favorites, patriotic tunes and more! We consider ourselves a show chorus. Some of our numbers are accompanied by dancers or small groups performing skits. Our audiences have come to expect a lively atmosphere as the standard at our concerts!
Our spring concert is in early May and the winter concert is in early December. Our typical concert weekend involves a performance on a Saturday evening and another on a Sunday afternoon. Often, both the adult and youth choruses perform several numbers
together.
One of our concert goals is to have fun!! When we have fun it spreads out to the entire audience helping to create a truly enjoyable experience for everyone in the room. If you love singing choral music, we hope you will consider joining us!
Anyone is welcome to come and sing with the NK Community Chorus, even if you are not you are a
North Kingstown resident. No auditions are necessary and you do not have to be able to read music. Music readers and non-readers are mixed so you can learn the notes by listening to those singing around you.
The chorus is fully supported financially by membership fees, music fees, and funds raised by selling advertising space in the concert program booklets. We do not receive any grants. Even so, we are able to raise enough money to award an annual music scholarship gift to a high school student planning to study music in college. We also support the North Kingstown High School music department with donations for music materials and music related activities.
Our Director, Roberta Belanger has a degree in fine arts from the University of Rhode Island and has been directing the chorus for more than 20 years. |
