SCHOLARSHIPS
Our chorus supports the arts throughout our community with support to the music departments of North Kingstown Schools as well as annual scholarships offered to high school seniors headed to college to study music.

Jenna Clark, a senior at North Kingstown High School, is a winner of a $2000 NK Community Chorus music scholarship for 2025. She is an outstanding student who has taken many Honors and AP classes, and is a member of the National Honor Society. Jenna is an exceptional musician and her accomplishments include 1st Chair NKHS Honors Orchestra, a finalist for the Rhode Island Concerto Competition, All-State Orchestra, and is ranked as one of the top cellists in the state. In addition, she has gained valuable experience playing in musical pits with professionals and with local chamber groups. One of our scholarship judges remarked that she is talented “way beyond her years.” Jenna is a member of the school’s Career and Tech Education Music Performance and Education Academy and is preparing herself for a music career. She has taken a wide variety of music classes including History of Jazz and AP Music Theory as well as stage tech training on sound and lighting. In the fall, Jenna will be attending Boston University and major in music performance. She hopes to pursue a Master’s Degree and possibly a doctorate in cello performance. She is determined, motivated and talented, and her future looks bright.
Madison Donnelly, a senior at North Kingstown High School, is a recipient of a $2000 North Kingstown Community Chorus music scholarship for 2025. She is an excellent student and talented vocalist while also studying to play the flute. She is also a member of the Music Career, Technical and Education Program, taking a variety of theory and performance classes. For the past seven years, Madison has performed for the Jamestown Community Theater and is now a Teen Board Representative. Recently had a lead role in the musical “Legally Blonde” at NKHS. She has taken voice lessons for seven years and participated in the high school concert choir for the last three years while also earning All-State Choir honors each of those years. In addition, she participated in the Solo and Ensemble Festivals for which she was an Excellent and Superior Medalist, once earning a Perfect Score. This past fall, she performed professionally in the Wilbury Theater Group, making her eligible to join the Actor’s Equity Association. In the fall Madison plans on attending the Leeds Conservatoire in England, pursuing an education in musical theatre performance and studying a multitude of theatrical genres while continuing to study the flute.

Abigail Simonini, an outstanding student taking many Honors and AP classes, is the 2025 recipient of the $2000 Janet Berry Memorial Scholarship. A senior at South Kingstown High School, she is a talented musician, particularly on the piano and the alto saxophone. Abigail started taking piano lessons in the 3rd grade and in the 5th grade learned to play the alto sax. Her piano teacher points to her enthusiasm, discipline, and determination to improve as a musician. Her musical experiences include Jazz Band and Symphony Orchestra at SKHS. For her Senior Project, she is teaching an 8th grader how to play the piano.
Abigail plans to attend the University of Miami in Ohio majoring in English Education, while also minoring in music. She hopes to teach high school music classes as well as teaching English. She also hopes to continue to play in ensembles at college and beyond, always making music an important part of her life. Ian Glover, an excellent student at NKHS, is a recipient of a $2000 NK Community Chorus music scholarship for 2025. He is a talented musician with his principal instrument being the euphonium, but he can also play the trombone and trumpet. His excellence was rewarded by being named first seat in his section in the RI Junior All-State and first/second seat in the RI Senior All-State Band and Orchestra. In addition, he has also sung in the RI Children’s chorus and the NK Community Youth Chorus.
During high school Ian was in a large number of musical activities, including Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Junior and Senior Jazz Band, RI Philharmonic Youth Wind Ensemble, and a Jazz Combo. Ian stated in his application that his experience playing with professionals in the Pit Orchestra for the NKHS musicals “Kiss Me, Kate” and “Legally Blond” convinced him that he wanted to pursue a degree in Music Performance in college. Ian plans to attend William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey with a goal to play live music wherever life takes him. |
Scholarship Application Process
North Kingstown Community Chorus Scholarship:
The North Kingstown Community Chorus will award a $2000 scholarship to a college-bound high school senior.
Eligible to apply: a) Students who reside in North Kingstown attending either public or private
school
b) Students who attend North Kingstown High School
c) Students who are in the immediate family of a current Chorus member
An applicant planning to major or minor in the many fields of music is preferred.
In addition, a student who has participated in 3 to 4 years of chorus, concert choir, show chorus, stage band, jazz band, orchestra, or musical productions in high school will also be considered for the award.
The applicant must submit our application form, an official high school transcript, two letters of recommendation, and a video recording of an informal performance in mp4/mov format. The details are on the application.
The award is competitive and will be juried by a panel of music professionals.
Janet Berry Scholarship in cooperation with the North Kingstown Community Chorus:
The North Kingstown Community Chorus, in honor of Mrs. Janet Berry, a former chorus member, will award a $2000 scholarship to a college-bound high school senior who will graduate from Narragansett or South Kingstown High School, or from The Prout School who resides in Narragansett or South Kingstown.
An applicant planning to major or minor in the many fields of music is preferred.
In addition, a student who has participated in 3 to 4 years of chorus, concert choir, show chorus, stage band, jazz band, orchestra, or musical productions in high school will also be considered for the award.

The North Kingstown Community Chorus is pleased to announce the 2024 winners of three music scholarships to high school seniors who will continue their music studies at the college level, Jenna Clark, Madison Donnelly, Ian Glover, and Abigail Simonini.
