SCHOLARSHIPS
Our chorus supports the arts throughout our community with support to the music departments of North Kingstown Schools as well as annual scholarships offered to high school seniors headed to college to study music.
Scholarship Application Process
North Kingstown Community Chorus Scholarship:
The North Kingstown Community Chorus will award a $2000 scholarship to a college-bound high school senior.
Eligible to apply: a) Students who reside in North Kingstown attending either public or private
school
b) Students who reside in Jamestown, but attend North Kingstown High
School
c) Students who are in the immediate family of a current Chorus member
An applicant planning to major or minor in the many fields of music is preferred.
In addition, a student who has participated in 3 to 4 years of chorus, concert choir, show chorus, stage band, jazz band, orchestra, or musical productions in high school will also be considered for the award.
The applicant must submit our application form, an official high school transcript, two letters of recommendation, and a video recording of an informal performance in mp4/mov format. The details are on the application.
The award is competitive and will be juried by a panel of music professionals.
Janet Berry Scholarship in cooperation with the North Kingstown Community Chorus:
The North Kingstown Community Chorus, in honor of Mrs. Janet Berry, a former chorus member, will award a $2000 scholarship to a college-bound high school senior who will graduate from Narragansett or South Kingstown High School, or from The Prout School who resides in Narragansett or South Kingstown.
An applicant planning to major or minor in the many fields of music is preferred.
In addition, a student who has participated in 3 to 4 years of chorus, concert choir, show chorus, stage band, jazz band, orchestra, or musical productions in high school will also be considered for the award.

Our Spring 2023 Scholarship process is now open. Scholarship applications are due on March 31, 2023.

The North Kingstown Community Chorus is pleased to announce the 2022 winners of two music scholarships to two high school seniors who will continue their music studies at the college level, Molly Wren & Lily Schofield.
Molly Wren, a senior and Honor Roll student at North Kingstown High School, has won the 2022 North Kingstown Community Chorus Scholarship. A talented musician, Molly sings and plays the guitar, ukulele, and piano. In addition, Molly is also a songwriter, and is currently writing a children’s album for kids with sensory issues.
During her high school years, Molly was in chorus, Honors chorus, and took extra music classes such as Survey of Music, History of Pop and Jazz, Piano Keyboarding, and AP Music Theory. Recently she played the part of the daughter Sophie Sheridan in the musical Momma Mia. She ranked as first soprano in All State RIMEA and was music director and choreographer for RI Youth Theater. Molly plans to study music education and pediatric psychology at Loyola University in New Orleans. She also strives to become a creative writer, director, and performer in the children’s entertainment industry. |
Lily Schofield, an Honors student at South Kingstown High School, has won the 2022 North Kingstown Community Chorus Janet Berry Scholarship. A member of the National Honor Society, she is also a talented violinist and vocalist.
Lily was the principal violinist in SK’s Symphony Orchestra and played both violin and keyboard in the Pit Orchestra. In addition, she was a member of the advanced jazz vocal ensemble. Among her awards and achievements, Lily was in the RIMEA jazz vocal ensemble, and an All State first place alto. She was also named a Berklee Jazz Festival esteemed vocalist. She plans to study Music Performance and Composition and has been accepted to both Belmont University and the Berklee School of Music. Her goal is to become a professional vocalist and musician. |
